The Certificate IV in English for Higher Education Preparation is designed to provide learners with the ability to achieve good results in proficiency tests that are relevant to higher education studies and to be prepared for integration into international educational facilities.

It will provide participants with a range of knowledge and skills to:

  • Read, comprehend and respond to different types of test questions requiring summaries, descriptions, explanations, comparisons and discussions.
  • Read for gist, main ideas and details.
  • Understand logical arguments and recognise writers’ opinion, attitudes and purpose.
  • Understand main ideas, detailed information, opinions, purposes and attitudes of speakers in both every-day and educational contexts.
  • Participate in interviews, give short talks, provide opinions, and ask and respond to questions.
  • Negotiate research topics, undertake research activities and present findings both verbally and in writing.
  • Assimilate with new styles of learning and assessment such as critical thinking skills, group-based learning and assessment, and performance-based assessment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the nature and workings of the VET and higher education institutions in general.
