The Certificate IV in English for Higher Education Preparation is designed to provide learners with the ability to achieve good results in proficiency tests that are relevant to higher education studies and to be prepared for integration into international educational facilities.
It will provide participants with a range of knowledge and skills to:
- Read, comprehend and respond to different types of test questions requiring summaries, descriptions, explanations, comparisons and discussions.
- Read for gist, main ideas and details.
- Understand logical arguments and recognise writers’ opinion, attitudes and purpose.
- Understand main ideas, detailed information, opinions, purposes and attitudes of speakers in both every-day and educational contexts.
- Participate in interviews, give short talks, provide opinions, and ask and respond to questions.
- Negotiate research topics, undertake research activities and present findings both verbally and in writing.
- Assimilate with new styles of learning and assessment such as critical thinking skills, group-based learning and assessment, and performance-based assessment
- Demonstrate an understanding of the nature and workings of the VET and higher education institutions in general.

This unit develops learners' skills for reading comprehension in test environments such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT®, and PTE. Learners will analyse task questions, apply test-taking and time-management strategies, and use active reading techniques to interpret texts. They will respond to various question types, review answers for accuracy, and apply knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, text structure, and cohesive devices to enhance comprehension and performance. - NAT11119002 Prepare for English writing tests
This unit develops learners' academic writing skills for tests such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT®, and PTE. Learners will analyse task questions, apply test-taking and time-management strategies, and structure their responses appropriately. They will use a range of vocabulary, grammar, and cohesive devices to produce well-organised texts. Additionally, they will review and edit their writing for errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and structure to ensure clarity and accuracy. - NAT11119003 Prepare for English listening tests
This unit develops learners' listening skills for tests such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT®, and PTE. Learners will analyse task questions, apply test-taking and time-management strategies, and use active listening techniques to interpret meaning. Learners will also deliver oral presentations using structured sequencing, paralinguistic features, and audience engagement techniques.
